Chicken Mess

I am not talking about chicken poo this time, the chicken mess I’m referring to is the mess Posh and Pecks make in the garden after free ranging for an hour or two. We are fortunate that we don’t have a lawn just a patio otherwise there’d be piles of mud, no grass and two very messy chicks!

Since both have started laying eggs the more messy they become, whereas before they used to just have a scratch around in the corner of the garden they now scratch around everywhere. Is it hunger? Well it shouldn’t be as pellets disappear at a rate of knots, if you go out with a treat bowl you get mobbed too! Laughing out loud

So we are planning to section a little more of the garden off for them (and for the sake of our plants!). Another thing we are doing is putting up hanging baskets. The girls can’t reach them so they add a splash of colour to the garden.

As well as spending my time picking up chicken poo behind them I now have to brush up pebbles and decorative bark. No sooner as I’ve brushed up the mess they are both in it scratching around. I’m not whining though, it’s great as I know they are having the time of their lives and if cleaning up a bit of poo or brushing pebbles is a result of them having the sun on their backs, fresh air and room to move then I am happy.

So be warned chickens will make a mess of your garden but there are benefits and ways to get around it.
