Posh is finally crouching
Well it’s just over 9 weeks ago that our chickens Posh and Pecks arrived. Pecks started crouching approximately 4 weeks ago and to date she has laid five GREAT eggs ; 14/3 16/3 17/3 19/3 20/3
Both chickens are approximately 25 weeks old. When they arrived the sun was rising at 07.53hrs and was setting about 16.31hrs. Nowadays, the sun rises at 06.00hrs and sets at 18.51hrs. Since the days are getting longer their treat time is now around 5pm instead 3.30pm and they have a lot more active time.
The chickens are let out of the eglu into the run at 8am this has remain unchanged since their arrival. The girls get approx 2 hours to free range a day which is supervised.
Posh is just starting to crouch now so fingers crossed she will hopefully be laying eggs very soon. Over the last two months I have had the privilege of seeing the chickens develop physically as well as seeing their personalities shine through!
Seeing their wattles and combs getting bigger and redder
Learn to scratch around in the soil with their feet
Catch and eat their first worm!
Playing cabbage football
Playing football with the treat ball that spills mealworms or other treats!
Purr
Jump on all the high places in the garden, eyeing up escape routes
Sit on my shoulders and arms!
Posh is still the friendliest chicken as really she’s the only one constantly jumping onto my shoulders and when I’m sat with my foot resting on my knee she jumps onto my lap, although Pecks has started to jump onto my lap for a bit of fussing so hopefully she realises the egg snatcher is a friend.
