Chicken poo smells? Not here.
It's been a little while since I've written anything and to be fair I've not seen much of the new hens aside from letting them into the run in the morning and cleaning the Eglu poo tray before work! So I thought I'd post up instalments of some of the things we use to keep the run clean and fresh smelling.
We've both been regular forum readers of the great community www.omlet.co.uk have and have learned a great deal from the more experienced poultry keepers there, if any are reading, thank you!

My sister Deb meets Posh and Pecks.
My sister Deb arrived just before 5pm, she had been looking forward to meeting the chickens since hearing about their arrival yesterday.
To her disappointment both Posh and Pecks were no where to be seen in the chicken run. It would appear that both had taken themselves off to bed early.
I opened the eggport door and both were huddled together, my sister comment 'they are big girls'. LOL I had to explain to the girls that she didn't mean they were fat!

Wings Clipped
Both Posh and Pecks had their wings clipped today, since they both behaved well they were treated to a few meal worms yummy
and a cuddle.

Sunrise
At 8am I put some fresh water and layers pellets in the run(yawn) and opened the door of the Eglu (chicken house).
None of the girls appeared at the door. I opened the eggport (which gives access to the nesting box) to see both Posh and Pecks huddled together they seemed very reclutant to budge.
I must admit I wasn't surprised dressed only in a dressing gown I could feel the cold

Bed Time
Its 5pm and their first night in their new home. Pecks had already gone to bed, but Posh was determined to stay up a little longer...oh no misses I said, as I picked her and put her in. Sweet Dreams...

Dinner
And for dinner I made them a slightly warm porridge of:
Boiled Potato Peel (until mushy)
A handful of Bokashi Bran
A small handful of chicken grit
A teaspoon of garlic powder
A teaspoon of Poultry Spice
A large handful of mealworms.
All mixed up and mushed together. And they picked out the mealworms and left the rest...oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.

First Breakfast
Both Posh and Pecks were very eager to get some grub down their necks after their journey. Their first breakfast consisted of a bowl of layers pellets followed by meal worms which they took from my hand

Arrival!
Blurry eyed and not exactly awake I get told that the Eglu van is here with our new chickens. There's no keeping the fact you have chickens a secret from your neighbours with this thing! Chicken and Eglu pictures were all over it.
Posh and Pecks checking out the run
The gentleman who delivered the chicks was extremely polite and helpful, even going as far as showing us how to clip the wings! I'll post more later (and fix the site so we have pictures!) but right now I have been told I've got to get a cabbage...
